In February 2023, researchers announced that that they had managed to file mind exercise in freely shifting octopuses for the primary time. The scientists implanted electrodes and a knowledge logger into day octopuses (Octopus cyanea).
Mind exercise patterns recorded within the analysis haven’t but been tied to particular behaviors, but if the observe sticks, it could present extra details about the inside workings of the octopus, and particularly how their mind exercise corresponds to their actions.
There are moral questions right here, as is the case each time gadgets are inserted into animals that can’t categorical consent. However inserting gadgets into the animals for science is arguably higher than frying and consuming them (and persuasively so, within the opinion of this author).
